AKUT makes its debut in Italy

Italy's high-ranking road network includes more than 700 tunnels, each over 500 metres long, with a total length of approximately 1,000 kilometres. Since 2022, Triveneto Servizi has been the strategic distribution partner for AKUT in Italy. Last year, the company secured its first contract for the installation of an AKUT system in the country.

The first Italian customer for AKUT is Autostrada Pedemontana Lombarda, a motorway operator in Lombardy that connects the provinces of Varese, Como, Monza and Brianza, and Bergamo. Its network includes several tunnels, among them the Gorla Tunnel (approximately 1,300 metres long), which was selected as the pilot project for AKUT.

Following the installation of the AKUT system in the Gorla Tunnel, the final acceptance test was successfully completed in February 2025. The system was then officially handed over to Autostrada Pedemontana Lombarda.

This first contract marks an important milestone for JOANNEUM RESEARCH in Italy and paves the way for future projects. The company has already secured a further contract with the neighbouring operator Milano Serravalle - Milano Tangenziali to equip four additional tunnels. These are scheduled to be handed over to the operator in summer 2025.
